September 7, 2006
Today I started spotting at work. I was so afraid I would lose the pregnancy.

September 11, 2006

Mommy and Daddy learned we were going to have twins - two babies - you and Noah.  We were thrilled. We saw your heartbeats for the first time as well on the ultrasound machine. I was feeling nautious at this point and was put on bedrest due to the spotting, which was diagnosed as a subchorionic hemmorhage.

September 18, 2006
Another ultrasound today. Both heartbeats are strong. Still spotting, still on bedrest, still very nervous.
Today - the pregnancy journal says that the division between the cerebral hemispheres of the babies' brains are well marked. Mammary gland tissue is beginning to develop in both males and females. The baby weighs about .00004 ounces (about as heavy as an eyelash from your lower lid).

Ultrasound today!
Two strong hearbeats.
Babies measuring 1 day ahead.
Spotting is slowing down, but still have. subchorionic hemmorhage.
(Pregnancy Journal: The ridges of the hand plates should be completely developed today. Nipples beginning to form for both sexes. Within the heart, the trunk of the pulmonary artery seperates from the trunk of the aorta. The baby's kidneys are beginning to produce urine. Today the critical period for arm development has ended. The arms are at their proper location and proportional size for this stage in development. The only task left is to complete the development of the hands.)

Another ultrasound was today!
We saw the babies moving around. I could even see the babies' legs. Both had good heartbeats. Still on bedrest. Still very nautious. Little appetite.

(Pregnancy Journal: Over the next few days, the baby's arms will lengthen and begin bending at the elbow. The fingers and thumb have appeared, and are short and webbed with folds of the skin in between. The baby now measures between .62-.71 inches long and weighs about .033 ounce.)

Ultrasound today - Babies were moving arms and legs all around. I was measuring 10 weeks 2 days at my OB/GYN which was ahead of where I was in the pregnancy. Still have hemmorhage - but both babies have good heart rates. Still on bedrest.
Cravings during early pregnancy have included: oranges
Food Aversions: meat, greasy foods, spicy foods

Pregnancy Journal: The baby's head now makes up more than half its length. Over the next four days, fingernails, toenails and hair follicles will appear. Over the next week, the baby will assume a more upright posture. Week 9 is a period of rapid growth.

An ultrasound today.
It was a great birthday present knowing my babies were still doing well. They were moving all around. However still spotting, and still on bed rest.

Pregnancy Journal: Skin has become thicker and less transparent. The penis is now distinguishable in males. In one short week, the baby has doubled in length to 2 inches and now weighs 1/4 ounce.

October 23, 2006
Ultrasound today!
Babies have good heartbeats. The hemmorhage is gone - soooo excited!

Pregnancy Journal: Baby's growth rate has slowed somewhat. It has doubled to almost 1/2 ounce and its length is about 2 inches.

October 24-30, 2006
Really bad orange cravings all week!  I never eat oranges.  Daddy had to go out and buy me a whole bag of oranges.

October 30, 2006
Ultrasound today!
Baby was hiccuping. Everything looks good.
Still a lot of food aversions.

Ultrasound today!
They told us we are having a little boy and a little girl!
I am so thrilled.
I went out a bought a blue hat and bootie set and a pink hat and bootie sack. When Daddy got home from work, he opened both to discover he was having a son and a daughter. He was also extremely excited. Now I can start shopping for baby clothes!

December 8, 2006
Starting to feel a lot of pressure.
I ran to the doctor at the end of work today thinking something was wrong. Everything was fine. They did a test to make sure I wasn't in pre-term labor. I wasn't, everything was good. Ultrasound was good as well.

December 19, 2006
Today was my first appointment at MN Perinatologists. I had my Level 2 ultrasound - it took hours. I couldn't believe how thorough they were. Definitely a boy and a girl. At this ultrasound, they had a hard time seeing everything - Noah and Abigail were so squished together. They thought Noah's head was misshapen. Later on it was found to be a false alarm, but at the time I was terrified as they threw out terms like hydrocephalus and spina bifida. All was worry for nothing - because at the next level 2 ultrasound. All was perfect with my little boy!

December 24-25, 2006
Our first and only Christmas together! I was beginning to finally look pregnant.

December 27, 2006
Another doctor's appointment today. I had lost one pound since my last visit. Have only gained 7 pounds so far. Heard both heartbeats. Doctor says all looks good.

Pregnancy Journal: By today, the baby's eyebrows and head hair will be visible. No matter how dark its hair will become, the baby's hair is now completely unpigmented. The eyebrows look like white streaks, and the hair on the baby's head is also white and very short.

January 2, 2007
Another appointment today - an ultrasound.  I got beautiful 3-D images of Noah, but Abigail was butt up and wouldn't turn around so I couldn't get a 3-D picture of her.  I wish I had one.

January 15, 2007
Daddy and I began the "Expecting Multiples" class at the hospital. It was a 7 week class, but little did we know that it would be our only class.

January 16, 2007
Level 2 Ultrasound today showed that both babies were doing beautifully. Both were perfect and had strong heartbeats. There were also no signs of preterm labor. Abby's Grandma and Mom went shopping and bought outfits for little Noah and Abby

January 18, 2007
Unexpectantly went into premature labor. Went to St. John's Hospital for a peace of mind check and learned I was having contractions 3 minutes apart, I was dilated to 4 with a bulging bag of waters. Noah, Abby and I were ambulanced to United where I was told I would remain on bedrest until the babies were born.

January 22, 2007
Had gained an additional 9 pounds. Have gained a total of 16 pounds. Am on bedrest at United Hospital in St. Paul.  While fetal monitoring, Abby, you were the tough one to find. The nurses said you were doing somersaults.  You were constantly moving around.

January 24, 2007
Abigail was born at United/Children's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 24, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. She weighed one pound 11.5 ounces.

January 24, 2007
Abigail was baptized. Father Bob Hart from Transfiguration Catholic Church came to the hospital and stayed until after the delivery. He then gave us the option of baptizing Noah and Abigail that evening. Both sets of grandparents along with Mommy and Daddy were there for Abigail's baptism. She received a white cloth, shell and a baptismal certificate to commemorate this important sacrament.

Noah's and Abby's Due Date

Hi Noah and Abby,
Today is the day I was to have finally held you as it was my due date. Sometimes it seems that I could pretend that nothing had really happened because you were still not supposed to even be here yet, but that is no longer true. It hurts so much to have lost you both and to know that I can't hold you or sing to you, or rock you to sleep. It hurts that I will never be able to change your diapers, see the color of your eyes or watch you smile. I miss you both so much. Today the entire family gathered at your grave and we released 32 balloons (16 pink, 16 blue) in honor of your due date. The family also brought flowers. Hailey brought pictures and Triston picked dandelions. Everyone loves you so much and misses you so much. My friends at work brought flowers to remember this special day and your Daddy brought a rose bush home after work. Daddy also baked angel food cakes for you - our little angels. We love and miss you so much my sweet babies. Good night.
Love Always,
Mommy

IRIS GOLF TOURNAMENT/BUTTERFLY RELEASE/MEMORIAL GARDEN

On Friday, July 13, 2007 Daddy and I participated in the Infants Remembered in Silence's 6th Annual Golf Tournament by volunteering our time.  We also had ordered a memorial garden stone. Later that day we released butterfies in honor of all the infants and loved ones that are so dearly missed.  We released a butterfly for you Abigail.  It was a beautiful day. We then attended a dinner and bought items at a silent auction all to benefit IRIS.  We wish you had been with us - but we hope you loved the butterfly we sent to you.

July 19-22, 2007
Daddy and I attended the SHARE retreat and were so proud to show off all your beautiful pictures and talk about what a miracle you and your brother are to us.  We attended a remembrance ceremony held at the Angel of Hope in St. Charles, Missouri.  The statue was erected as a place for parents who have lost a child to come and remember.

August 5, 2007

Today we were invited to the Minnesota Twins game as a recognition of our involvement as Ambassador Family for the March of Dimes.  For the March of Dimes, Team Abigail/Noah raised over $1000!  All that money will go to help other babies as the organization works to prevent premature birth.  Daddy and I carried the March of Dimes banner unto the stadium field and paraded around the entire field.  The entire way, we thought of the two of you.  When Mommy was pregnant, we always used to imagine what it would be like to have our very own Minnesota twins.  Today's game was very bittersweet as we wished you were with us.  The Twins won the game against Cleveland 1-0.
